In Mzuzu a pedalcyclist (particulars not known) has died in a road accident which occurred on July 1, 2023 around 20:20 pm at Luwinga near Petroda junction along Mzuzu/Ekwenden M1 road.
The accident involved motor vehicle registration number BR 9409/NS32 MAN articulated truck driven by Mr Jimmy Chikondi Kaphagawani 40, of Tawakali village Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba who was driving from the direction of Mzuzu heading luwinga.
Upon arrival at a place near Petroda junction Kaphagawani collided sideways with unknown male pedalcyclist who was heading same direction.
Following the impact, unknown male pedalcyclist (now deceased) sustained severe head injury and multiple fractures on both legs and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
The bicycle was extensively damaged and the motor vehicle had no damage.
The driver has since been arrested and will answer offence of causing death by reckless driving contrary to section 126 (4) (C) of the Road Traffic Act.
Police in Mzuzu are advising all road users to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations to avoid preventable road accidents.
