Rumphi Police interfaces with Chitimba Communities

In a bid to strengthen the good relationship between police and community members, the Officer In-charge for Rumphi Police Station Mr Pherson Nthenda Assistant Commissioner of Police and team on Monday, July 17, 2023 had an interface meeting with Chitimba residents to persuade them to partner with Police in crime prevention.

The meeting was held at Chitimba Police Unit and in attendance were various community leaders and community forum members within the area.

Speaking to the gathering, the Officer In-charge recommended Chitimba Communities for there involvement in community policing activities and working hand in hand with police which is impressive.

The OC urged the leaders to have an important role to play in the community so that the area is a crime-free- zone.

He therefore encouraged the leaders and their subordinates to continue promoting policing activities in the area a thing which will scare away criminals and achieve reduced crime rate.

“For policing to be effective, the community should be active in sealing security loopholes and reporting in time to police rather than taking laws into their own hands by killing or injuring suspected criminals’ Nthenda said.

On his part, Group Village head Nkhuluti described security as a compliment to development saying that people can have businesses and other income generating activities but if there is no security , everything gets compromised.

The chief also emphasized that for us to achieve the goal we require a joint effort with the police and our collaboration should first start here before it goes out.

In conclusion, the Station Executive Committee Chair, Aaron Nyirenda hailed the police for considering the interface meeting with Chitimba communities an initiative which will boost security in the area. Nyirenda also appealed to them that it’s crucial to be in partnership with police inorder to be equiped with security skills which will enhance safety and security in the area.
