In a proactive effort to enhance community safety, Dowa Police—working in partnership with the Station Executive Committee (SEC)—held a strategic meeting on Thursday, July 10, at the Dowa District Council Lodge to review second-quarter security operations and strengthen ongoing initiatives.

Chairperson of the SEC, Bishop Peter Waya, applauded the police for their professionalism and unwavering dedication. He urged members to explore sustainable strategies for resource mobilization to support law enforcement activities.

“Together, we can build a safer and more united Dowa District. We encourage all residents to remain vigilant, collaborate with police, and actively participate in community safety efforts,” Waya said.

Officer-in-Charge for Dowa Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Almakio Daka, noted that the recent influx of new arrivals at Dzaleka Refugee Camp has introduced emerging security challenges in the district.

Despite this, he reported a 4% decrease in traffic-related incidents compared to the same period last year, crediting improved community cooperation and proactive policing.

Daka also addressed the impact of refugee relocations and the withdrawal of UNHCR operations, which he said had placed added pressure on local policing structures. In response, officers have strengthened ties with community policing forums to improve grassroots surveillance and encourage timely incident reporting.

He concluded by warning against political violence and urged all stakeholders to uphold peace and integrity ahead of the upcoming elections.

Dowa Police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting all citizens and maintaining law and order across the district.
