Aspiring 2025 presidential candidate Comrade Alhaji Imraan Jumbe has advised the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and its leader, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, that winning elections is achieved through action and fulfilling campaign promises, not through harassment and intimidation.

Jumbe criticized the continued harassment and arrests of critics, stating that these tactics will not protect the MCP from the challenges of the 2025 elections. He argued that no amount of arrests or intimidation can hide the fact that the MCP has failed to deliver on its promises. While the people have been patient, he warned that patience is not limitless.

He also called for the unconditional release of Dr. Patricia Kaliati, reminding the MCP government that “He who fears the sun will not become a chief.” Jumbe emphasized that it is time for change and demanded an end to intimidation and unlawful detentions without trial.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Jumbe assured the MCP and President Chakwera that the people of Malawi will no longer be silenced. He urged the MCP government to stand on the side of justice, transparency, and progress, rather than resorting to oppressive tactics.

Jumbe questioned whether the MCP would continue down the path of intimidation, which he believes only leads to defeat. He reminded the ruling party that “a leader is a servant, not a master,” and stressed that it is time for the MCP to serve the people instead of ruling them through fear.

“The people have spoken, and they will speak again in September 2025. Let that voice be one of democracy, not oppression,” read Jumbe’s statement.

He warned that the winds of change are blowing fiercely, yet the MCP is clinging to old methods, like a dying tree holding on to withered leaves. Jumbe advised that this is not the time for silencing political opponents, but rather a time for reflection and fulfilling promises.

He expressed concern over the continued detention of Dr. Patricia Kaliati beyond 48 hours without formal charges, stating that Malawians are yearning for genuine freedom, justice, and prosperity, not a government that seeks to tighten its grip on power through force.
