Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya this morning held an inspiring motivational session with the Malawi Women’s National Football Team — the Scorchers — ahead of their crucial 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifier against Angola at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

Addressing the team before their final training session, President Haiya urged the players to take to the pitch with confidence, courage, and belief, reminding them that they carry the hopes and dreams of an entire nation.

“Play without fear, trust in your abilities, and remember that the whole of Malawi stands firmly behind you,” President Haiya told the squad. “This is your moment to make history and inspire future generations of Malawian girls to believe in the power of their dreams.”

The Scorchers are aiming to make history by qualifying for the WAFCON finals for the first time. The team has shown tremendous growth and determination throughout the qualification campaign, reflecting the transformative vision that FAM has set for women’s football development in Malawi.

President Haiya reaffirmed FAM’s commitment to supporting women’s football through improved infrastructure, technical development, and welfare initiatives designed to empower female athletes and ensure sustainable progress.

“Our goal is not just to qualify, but to build a legacy — one that elevates women’s football in Malawi and across Africa,” he emphasized.

As the Scorchers prepare for the decisive fixture, the President’s message has reinforced national pride and optimism, with fans across Malawi rallying behind the team.
