Regional Sports Bodies Oriented on Harmonizing Performance

Regional sports bodies in the Northern Region have undergone an orientation aimed at harmonizing their performance in developing recreation and sports in line with the Malawi 2063 agenda.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Mzuzu, Regional Senior Recreation and Sports Development Officer, Felix Yola, emphasized the need for sports associations to share successes and challenges in recreation and sports development.
Shaping sports sromotion and development Yola added that the Malawi National Sports Council conducted the engagement meetings to shape efforts in sports promotion and create an enabling environment in line with the Malawi sports development agenda and the National Vision 2063
“We believe that lively lifestyles are the basis for meaningful socioeconomic development. Hence, there’s a need for us to share notes time and again to ensure no one is left behind in our efforts to meet district, regional, and national goals.” Yola said.
The meeting also discussed the National Qualifications Framework, which aims to standardize qualifications for coaches, officials, and administrators.
“Empowering athletes and promoting excellence the national qualifications framework aims to empower athletes aged 6–18 with structured development pathways, promote professionalism, excellence, and integrity in sport, in tandem with the Malawi Vision 2063 goals,” Yola explained.
These goals include human capital development, youth empowerment, and health promotion.
Highlighting on strengthening sports ecosystems Northern Region Football Association chairperson, Masiya Nyasulu, hailed the meeting as a bold step towards creating a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable sports ecosystem.

Gospel Thanthwe Mangwiro from the Northern Basketball League echoed Nyasulu’s sentiments, stating that such meetings measure progress in recreation and sports development.
The meeting also served as a platform to prepare for the upcoming Mzuzu Indigenous Sporting activities, scheduled for October 18, 2025, at Katoto Secondary School Grounds.
