The Busaana Town Council Playground in Kayunga District is abuzz with excitement as a sea of yellow-cl clad NRM supporters gather to catch a glimpse of their party’s presidential candidate, Yoweri Museveni.

The crowd is eagerly awaiting Museveni’s arrival to address his first rally of the day, marking the beginning of his ‘Protecting the Gains’ campaign for the 2026 elections.

Museveni’s campaign theme emphasizes continuity, stability, and household wealth creation, with a focus on transforming Uganda into a high middle-income country.

The NRM leader has been touring various districts, holding rallies and highlighting government achievements in infrastructure development, wealth creation programs, and security.

In Butaleja and Tororo, Museveni stressed the importance of unity and safeguarding progress made under his leadership, particularly in peace and security, economic growth, and rural development.

His campaign has drawn large crowds, with supporters in Kisoro District welcoming him with enthusiasm and traditional performances.

Museveni’s message centers on wealth creation, socio-economic transformation, and consolidating achievements, urging voters to support the NRM for continued progress.

Museveni has been in power for over 40 years, with his current term set to expire in 2026.

The election is shaping up to be a defining moment for Uganda, with opposition figures like Bobi Wine expressing concerns about government intimidation and suppression of dissenting voices.

Opposition leaders are calling for reforms and greater transparency in the electoral process, citing concerns about the government’s handling of recent by-elections and the arrest of opposition activists, including Sarah Bireete.

The international community is watching the situation closely, with many calling for a peaceful and fair electoral process that respects human rights and democratic principles.
