The Chitipa District Council has lauded the Malawi Health Equity Network (MHEN) for its instrumental role in increasing immunisation rates among children under five in the district.
Speaking during an exit meeting with the District Executive Committee (DEC), Director of Administration Clement Gonthi praised MHEN’s interventions, citing marked improvements in vaccination coverage. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to closely monitor immunisation activities in alignment with the District Health Office’s strategic plans.

“We are seeing the impact of MHEN’s work on the ground, and we are determined to build on this momentum,” Gonthi said.
MHEN Assistant Programme Officer Hannah Dzongo expressed satisfaction with the progress of the initiative. She highlighted the importance of the established mother groups, describing them as key to sustaining the programme’s achievements by mobilising women to access prenatal services and ensure timely child immunisation.
The initiative, funded by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), has been implemented across nine districts—including Chitipa—under a $3.58 million budget. Running from 2019 to 2025, the project aims to complement government efforts in strengthening healthcare delivery and outcomes.

The council’s endorsement of MHEN’s work underscores the value of collaboration in addressing public health challenges. With continued support and community engagement, Chitipa stands to make lasting gains in child health and survival.
