Mukuru Unveils MK675 Million 3-Year Sponsorship for Under-21 Netball Team and National League

International money transfer company Mukuru Malawi has unveiled a K675 million three-year sponsorship for the Malawi Under-21 national netball team and the Under-21 national netball league.

Speaking in Blantyre on Friday, Mukuru’s Country Manager, Pride Chiwaya, said the company believes in investing in the future—and that future lies with the youth.

“This sponsorship is part of our deliberate strategy to empower the girl child by creating real, visible opportunities for growth through sport,” he said.

“We want to be part of building a Malawi where young girls can rise to represent their country, compete on global stages, and inspire generations to come,” added Chiwaya.

He further emphasized that by sponsoring the U-21 team, Mukuru is contributing to the development of a talent pipeline that will ultimately strengthen the senior national team in the coming years.

“We believe talent exists everywhere. Through this league, we aim to give every young girl with potential a platform to be seen, supported, and celebrated,” he said.

Chiwaya noted that the sponsorship aligns with Mukuru’s core values of inclusion, empowerment, and meaningful impact.

He also acknowledged the efforts of the Malawi National Council of Sports and the Government of Malawi, stating that Mukuru is honored to complement their initiatives in grassroots sports development and the use of sport as a tool for national growth.

“This is a step forward in our collective journey to empower the youth, uplift communities, and promote gender equality,” he said.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Vitumbiko Gubuduza expressed gratitude to Mukuru for the timely support.

The Malawi Under-21 national netball team is expected to compete in the COSANA Under-21 Championship in Windhoek, Namibia next month, as part of their preparations for the Netball World Youth Cup in Gibraltar, scheduled for September this year.
