Malawi First Lady Monica Chakwera has called on women across Malawi to uphold self-esteem, respect one another, and recognize their God-given strength and purpose.

Speaking at the Women’s World Day of Prayer held at Mzuzu Stadium on Friday, Chakwera encouraged women not to underestimate themselves, emphasizing that every woman’s actions matter.

“Let us be satisfied with how we were created. Let us pray for our education sector so that no girl is forced to drop out of school. Let us pray for peace in our homes, communities, and country, and for opportunities so that every woman, regardless of her background, has a chance to rise,” she said.

She urged women to support girls’ education to improve literacy levels and assured them that God would guide their efforts.

Highlighting the vital roles of women as leaders, nurturers, and life-givers, Chakwera encouraged mothers to instill good behavior in children and remain steadfast in praying for the nation and its leadership.

The prayer service brought together women from various denominations who prayed for Malawi’s leaders, the fight against corruption, economic resilience, and peace, particularly as the country approaches the September 16 General Election. They also extended prayers for war-torn nations and encouraged women to be advocates of peace.

The event, themed “I Made You Wonderful” (Psalm 140:13), celebrated the diverse talents and abilities God has bestowed upon women.

Notable attendees included Inspector General of Police Merlyne Yolamu, Minister of Defence Monica Chang’anamuno, and Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba.
