Negotiations between the Government Negotiating Team (GNT) and the Civil Servants Trade Union (CSTU) have resulted in a 20 percent salary increase for civil servants, effective April 1, 2025.

GNT chairperson Charles Kalemba and CSTU secretary general Titha Gomani confirmed the agreement, which follows weeks of discussions aimed at improving the welfare of government employees.

According to Gomani, while the general salary increment stands at 20 percent, the average increase across all civil servants will be around 18 percent due to salary variations. In addition to the pay rise, transport and special allowances have been raised by 50 percent, offering further financial relief to employees facing increased living costs.

Furthermore, the two parties agreed to adjust the leave grant within a range of 10 to 40 percent, depending on job grades and categories. The increment package is expected to ease financial pressure on civil servants amid ongoing economic challenges.

The agreement marks a significant step in addressing salary concerns among government employees, with CSTU expressing satisfaction over the outcome. However, Gomani emphasized that the union will continue engaging the government to advocate for better working conditions and further improvements in civil servants’ welfare.
