Malawi’s women’s football team pulled off a stunning 3-2 victory over Zambia’s Copper Queens on Tuesday afternoon, just a day after their defeat in the first friendly match.

The Scorchers were determined to bounce back from their 2-0 loss over the weekend. Despite trailing 1-0 within five minutes, they put on a much-improved performance. Racheal Kundananji scored her second goal in two games, hammering home a rebound after a shot hit the post.

However, the Scorchers leveled the score in the 48th minute through Montpellier’s attacker, Rose Kabzere. Tabitha Chawinga then released an advancing Faith Chinzimu, who put the Scorchers ahead on the 56th minute.

Two minutes later, Chawinga’s shot was cleared, and the ball was sent onto Sabina Thom’s path, who powered home to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

Racheal Nachula scored a header in the 80th minute to narrow the gap to 3-2, but the Scorchers held on to their lead, securing a famous victory.

Coach Lovemore Fazili was happy with the win and praised the girls for their impressive performance in the game. “I am happy with how the girls played, and I am confident that we can do better in the upcoming games. We worked on our mistakes from the previous game, and it paid off. The girls showed great character and fighting spirit”.

The Scorchers’ victory marked a significant turnaround from their defeat in the first friendly match, and they will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming games.
