President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has expressed satisfaction with the efforts of Malawian diplomats in promoting the country’s produce in international markets.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Chakwera reaffirmed his confidence in the Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM) strategy, calling it a game-changer for Malawi’s economy.

He emphasized that the initiative is designed to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and drive economic growth.

Responding to a question from Kasungu North MP Mike Bango on whether he was satisfied with the diplomats’ performance in securing international markets, the president assured that the ATM strategy has been integrated into the 2024/2025 budget, with allocations for agricultural projects, tourism development, and mining initiatives.

“Our vision is to transform Malawi into an industrialized, self-reliant nation with a robust, upper-middle-income economy. The ATM strategy is central to achieving this goal,” Chakwera said.

As the country grapples with economic challenges, including forex shortages linked to low export levels, Chakwera underscored the importance of ensuring the ATM strategy delivers on its promise of economic transformation.
