As Malawi gears up for the September 16, 2025, general elections, concerns over political violence have taken center stage. Ernest Mtemweka Chirambo, the Country Director of One Youth One Voice for Change, has strongly condemned the recent violent incidents in Machinga, urging the youth and political stakeholders to embrace peaceful engagement.

Speaking on behalf of Malawi’s youth, Chirambo decried the rise in political fightings and unrest, emphasizing that such acts threaten national stability and the democratic process. “This behavior is unacceptable in our society and undermines the very fabric of our nation,” he stated, calling on all citizens to prioritize dialogue and mutual understanding over hostility.

The violent incidents in Machinga have raised alarms about the safety of voters and candidates as the election approaches. Chirambo warned that escalating political tensions could tarnish Malawi’s democratic reputation and hinder development. He stressed that violence not only destroys lives but also disrupts the peace and unity the country has long worked to maintain.

Chirambo’s organization, One Youth One Voice for Change, has called on young people across Malawi to reject the culture of violence and advocate for peaceful political participation. “As the future leaders of our country, it is our responsibility to foster an environment of respect and tolerance. We must ensure that our voices are heard without fear of retribution,” he emphasized.

He also urged political leaders, community members, and civil society organizations to actively discourage violent acts and promote dialogue-driven solutions to political disagreements. “Together, we can build a Malawi where every citizen feels safe and valued, regardless of their political beliefs,” he said.

With the 2025 elections fast approaching, Chirambo’s call for peace serves as a crucial reminder that democracy thrives on respect, tolerance, and the protection of human rights. As he passionately declared, “Let us be the change we want to see—One Youth, One Voice for Change!”
