Dowa Police Recover Stolen Property Worth Millions, Arrest Refugees for Theft

Dowa Police have recovered stolen property worth millions of kwachas and arrested seven refugees from Dzaleka Camp in connection with the thefts.
The suspects, six Congolese nationals and one Rwandan national, are aged between 10 and 18. They were apprehended during an operation conducted between February 24 and 25, 2025.
According to police reports, the thefts occurred between February 21 and 24, 2025. During this period, Dzaleka Police Unit received multiple complaints from residents about unknown criminals terrorizing the camp.
In response, officers intensified day and night patrols and launched an intelligence-driven operation, which led to the arrest of the suspects.
The main suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Bonface Fisito, while the other six are minors. Upon questioning, they confessed to the crimes and led police to the locations where they had sold the stolen goods.
The recovered property includes plasma screens, laptops, cellphones, radios, subwoofers, clothing, groceries, and other valuables, with an estimated worth of K10.7 million.
Police investigations are ongoing to apprehend more suspects and recover additional stolen items.
The seven suspects are expected to appear in court soon to face theft-related charges.
