Rangers Beat Kalembelembe to Keep Title Hopes Alive
The race for the Central Region FAM Moto Division One League is set for a dramatic finish as leaders Blue Eagles Reserve face stiff competition from second-placed Green Rangers FC.
On Sunday, Green Rangers FC from Area 36 secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Kalembelembe, keeping their championship hopes alive and reducing the gap with league leaders Blue Eagles Reserve to just four points.
With 21 matches played, Blue Eagles Reserve currently lead with 46 points, while Green Rangers, having played one game less (20 matches), now have 42 points. If Rangers win their remaining two fixtures, they will be crowned champions, reaching a maximum of 48 points.
However, their title aspirations hinge on a decisive final match against Blue Eagles Reserve. The young cops are equally determined to claim the championship, setting up a thrilling finale to the season.
Green Rangers are eager to return to the CRFA Chipiku Stores Premier Division League, a competition they were relegated from in the 2022 season alongside TN Stars FC.
Rangers’ General Secretary, Maxwell Kachere, remains optimistic about securing promotion.
“After finishing fourth in the 2023 season, we focused on early preparations for 2024. The management fully supported the coaching staff in strengthening the squad, which has worked to our advantage,” Kachere said.
“We struggled in the preliminary round, but in the round of 12, management introduced ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Week’ accolades. These motivated the players, encouraging them to work harder while maintaining discipline and unity. Our dream is to return to the Premier Division, and we are committed to winning our final two games to achieve that.”
He also acknowledged that this season has been highly competitive despite its prolonged duration.
His counterpart, Eagles team Manager, Hope Nthaka says the most important thing they can do is to defeat Rangers in the final game to claim the Championship.
