Aspirant Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lufilya Constituency, Atusaye Nyondo, has urged voters to elect a leader committed to driving development ahead of the September 16 elections.

Speaking at the MCP district offices on Sunday, where he was officially welcomed into the party, Nyondo emphasized the need for meaningful transformation in the constituency, positioning himself as the ideal candidate to spearhead this change.

“Choosing a leader dedicated to development will transform Lufilya Constituency, ensuring a better future and greater opportunities for the people,” he stated.

Nyondo highlighted his previous contributions, including supporting needy students with school bags and learning materials and renovating bridges to ensure safe passage for children on their way to school.

He pledged to enhance education infrastructure in the constituency by constructing more classroom blocks to accommodate more learners if elected.

MCP District Chairperson for Karonga, Emmanuel Nkhoma, commended Nyondo for joining the party and competing in the upcoming primaries. He described Nyondo’s decision as a testament to public trust in Malawi’s democracy.

“This reflects the confidence in our democratic process, where aspirants are willing to contest in highly competitive primaries rather than taking an easier route by running as independents,” Nkhoma explained.

Lufilya Constituency, a newly established electoral area in northern Karonga District, was created following the Malawi Electoral Commission’s 2023 constituency boundary review. Its addition brings the total number of constituencies in the district to six.
