Catholic Church in Malawi Gets New Leadership

The Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB) has announced a new leadership team, with Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka of the Karonga Diocese elected as its president. His election marks a new chapter for the Catholic Church in Malawi.
Bishop Mtumbuka brings extensive experience to his new role, succeeding Archbishop George Desmond Tambala.
Meanwhile, Bishop Adrian Chifukwa of the Dedza Diocese has been elected vice president, taking over from Bishop Montfort Sitima of Mangochi.
The elections took place during the bishops’ plenary meeting at the MCCB secretariat in Lilongwe, marking an important milestone for the Church.
MCCB Secretary General, Very Reverend Father Valeriano Mtseka, expressed confidence that the new leadership will continue guiding the faithful with wisdom and commitment.
As a key institution in Malawi, the MCCB plays a crucial role in upholding Catholic values, advocating for social justice, and addressing national issues through the lens of faith.
The new leadership is expected to build on these foundations while addressing emerging challenges in the Church and society.
