Government and UN Unite for Sustainable Development

The Government of Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving national development goals by ensuring that no one is left behind.
Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC), Colleen Zamba, made these remarks during the Joint National Steering Committee meeting held at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
The meeting focused on assessing progress in implementing the 2024-2028 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, addressing key challenges, and identifying solutions to accelerate development efforts. Additionally, it served as a platform to review and endorse the 2024 Annual Performance Results and the 2024-2025 Joint Work Plan, while exploring strategic areas for enhanced collaboration and joint accountability.
United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Rebbeca Ada Dontoh noted that the UN-Malawi Government Sustainable Development Cooperation is making significant progress. She highlighted achievements in promoting inclusivity, reducing gender-based violence, fostering youth innovation, and supporting the mining sector, despite challenges in mobilizing financial resources.
In 2024, the United Nations in Malawi, in partnership with the Government of Malawi, began implementing the new 2024-2028 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (CF).
This framework, signed by the government and 23 UN agencies, aligns with Malawi’s Vision 2063, focusing on key sectors such as tourism, energy, mining, transport, public works, and gender equality.
