A Brighter Future for Rumphi Central: A Story of Hope and Opportunity

In the heart of Rumphi Central Constituency, where opportunities for young people are often scarce, a new chapter of hope is unfolding.
For years, many youths who drop out of school or complete their Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) have struggled to find meaningful opportunities. Without technical skills or financial support, their dreams seem out of reach.
But now, a new initiative is changing their lives. Mike Malowoka Zgambo, an independent aspiring candidate dedicated to the development of his people, has launched a skills development program to empower young men and women with technical expertise.
Through this initiative, 25 youths both boys and girls are selected from different villages across the constituency to receive training in tailoring, welding, plumbing, electrical installation, catering, bricklaying, carpentry, and many other trades.
To ensure that financial barriers do not stand in ittheir way, tuition fees amounting to nearly K1,800,000 are fully covered.
This support allows these young people to focus entirely on learning, without worrying about how to pay for their education.
Excitement is growing within the community. Families are seeing their sons and daughters gaining skills that will open doors to a brighter future. To assess the students’ progress, Mike and his team visit the training centers on a Tuesday afternoon.
What they witness is nothing short of inspiring young men welding metal frames with precision, girls mastering the art of tailoring, future electricians confidently wiring circuits, and aspiring chefs perfecting their cooking techniques.
The transformation is evident. Confidence replaces uncertainty, and hope replaces despair. This initiative is not just about skills; it is about restoring dignity, creating self-reliance, and building a stronger community.
With the slogan of “Your Voice, Your Power, Your Future” Zgambo Said, “This is the first phase,” Mike announces. “The second phase, where we will select another 25 youths, will take place at the end of June 2025.”
The news sparks even more enthusiasm, as more young people see a chance for a better future.
Peter Simkoko Principal at Bright Skills Development Centre in Mzuzu said Vocational Institute, also acknowledged Zgambo’s contribution, aligning it with the government’s efforts to create blue-collar jobs.
“Zgambo’s support complements government initiatives through the Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational, and Training Authority (TEVETA) and serves as a timely contribution to sustainable socio-economic growth,” Simkoko said.
As the sun sets over Rumphi Central, a sense of optimism fills the air. The constituency is witnessing a revolution—one powered by education, empowerment, and opportunity.
With Mike Malowoka Zgambo’s candidate, Rumphi Central is not just a place to live; it is becoming a place to thrive.
