Woman allegedly commits Suicide in Mzuzu

Elvin Msukwa, 25 has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself under the roof inside her bedroom at Masasa Township in Mzuzu City.
It has been established that Elvin Msukwa (now deceased) was staying with her mother but in a separate bedroom within their home. It is also known that on January 27, 2025, after having supper with her mother at around 21:00 hours, she went into her bedroom and slept without showing any stress or anxiety.
The following morning, on January 28, 2025, at around 06:00 hours, Elvin’s son entered her bedroom and discovered his mother hanging from the roof with a wire beside her bed. He immediately informed a relative, who then reported the matter to Mzuzu Police Station.
Officers from Mzuzu Police, along with medical personnel from Mzuzu Central Hospital, visited the scene. After a post-mortem examination, results suggest the cause of death to be suffocation secondary to strangulation caused by hanging. However, Police are still investigating the matter to establish if there are other factors other than alleged suicide.
Police in Mzuzu are urging members of the public to seek support from the Victim Support Unit at the station or any nearest police Unit in the city when facing personal challenges for counselling, instead of resorting to suicide.
Elvin Msukwa hailed from Chipwera Village, Traditional Authority Misuku, in Chitipa district.
