Low Turnout Mars Supplementary Voter Registration in Dowa

The supplementary voter registration exercise conducted by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Dowa under the second phase has been marked by a low turnout, with the process concluding on Tuesday.
A media tour organized by MEC to various registration centers revealed that most people did not turn up to register. The highest number of registrants recorded at a single center was 21, while some centers registered none at all.
Speaking after monitoring the centers, MEC Commissioner Dr. Emmanuel Fabiano attributed the low turnout to a lack of seriousness among some eligible youths.
“We also have to take into consideration that this is the rainy season, and many people are likely occupied with farming activities,” he added.
Despite the challenges, MEC continues to encourage eligible voters to take part in the registration process to ensure full participation in the upcoming elections.
