The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw has officially been completed, and the excitement is palpable as teams prepare for what promises to be a thrilling showcase of African football.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has expressed the association’s renewed determination to ensure the Flames rise to the occasion in future tournaments.

“This draw is a reminder of the level of competition we aspire to. It’s not just about being part of the tournament, it’s about competing at the highest level and making a mark as a footballing nation,” said Haiya.

He emphasized that this moment should act as a rallying call for all stakeholders in Malawian football.

“We are committed to building a stronger, more competitive Flames team. This means going beyond the short-term and focusing on long-term investments in talent development, infrastructure, and technical expertise,” he added.

Haiya also highlighted the importance of using the AFCON draw as a source of inspiration.

“It’s time to work harder, plan smarter, and ensure that the Flames are not only part of the next TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations but are also prepared to compete with the very best. Our goal is to put Malawi on the map as a football powerhouse,” he said.

FAM has reiterated its dedication to transforming football in Malawi by enhancing grassroots programs, improving facilities, and creating opportunities for young talent to thrive.

“The Flames represent the dreams and aspirations of millions of Malawians. It’s our duty to nurture and support them in every way possible,” concluded Haiya.
