Pemphero Mphande Pushes for Cardiac Health Solutions in Malawi

The Chairperson of the Pemphero Mphande and Friends Foundation, Mr. Pemphero Mphande, is spearheading efforts to address Malawi’s healthcare challenges, focusing on cardiac care. Currently in Mumbai at the invitation of Gleneagles Hospital, Mr. Mphande is exploring partnerships and solutions that could revolutionize healthcare access for Malawians.
In high-level discussions with Gleneagles Hospital’s Senior Consultant in Cardiology, Dr. Sameer Pagad, and CEO, Dr. Bipin Chevale, Mr. Mphande explored the feasibility of establishing a cardiac catheterization lab in Malawi. The proposed facility would provide life-saving procedures like pacemaker insertions, angioplasties, and angiographies.
“Two years ago, I highlighted the urgent need for a cardiac center in Malawi. This visit is a critical step towards making that dream a reality,” Mr. Mphande said. “Such a facility will save countless lives, reduce medical expenses for patients, and keep foreign exchange within Malawi. I have no doubt this will happen—it’s just a matter of time.”
Beyond this project, Mr. Mphande is working to create partnerships with leading Indian hospitals to offer affordable healthcare for Malawians. These collaborations will allow patients to access high-quality treatment abroad at reduced costs.
“By partnering with Indian hospitals, we can significantly reduce the financial burden on Malawians seeking specialized care,” he added.
The visit, fully sponsored by Gleneagles Hospital, showcases the foundation’s proactive approach to solving Malawi’s healthcare challenges. Mr. Mphande expressed gratitude to Gleneagles for their support and thanked the foundation’s followers for their prayers and encouragement.
The Pemphero Mphande and Friends Foundation remains committed to improving healthcare access in Malawi. Mr. Mphande has called on the Ministry of Health, private investors, and the general public to rally behind these transformative efforts.
“With collective effort, we can build a future where Malawians no longer have to endure avoidable suffering due to lack of specialized healthcare facilities,” Mr. Mphande concluded.
