Mzuzu City CYF Presbytery Chairperson Urges Youth to Shun Political Violence

In a gathering of over 600 youths from Mzuzu City Presbytery and Mzuzu Presbytery under the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) in the Synod of Livingstonia, Mike Sakala, the Mzuzu City Presbytery chairperson, urged young people to avoid involvement in political violence and uphold discipline.
Speaking after the Synod Day of Prayer and Fasting program held at Viyere under the theme “Rise Above the Noise,” Sakala emphasized that politicians should not divert youths from their faith and moral values.
“We are approaching a critical period as the September 2025 tripartite elections draw near. Politicians will seek to exploit the youth for their own agendas, including violence. I urge you to live out the teachings shared here and remain steadfast in your faith,” Sakala said.
He also called on political candidates, including those vying for Member of Parliament or Councilor positions, to run peaceful campaigns and remember their identity as children of God.
“Regardless of the political positions you pursue, always carry yourself as a child of God. Let His presence guide your actions and distinguish you from others,” he added.
In a sermon, Apostle Zizi Sichinga addressed corruption, attributing it to a lack of spiritual rebirth among decision-makers.
“Imagine a nation led by born-again Christians. Corruption would cease to exist. Leadership rooted in God’s principles brings transformation,” Sichinga said.
He encouraged the youth to prioritize their relationship with God, especially in leadership roles, noting that Christianity is inclusive.
“The church needs contributions from all—whether doctors, professors, or professionals in other fields. Christianity is for everyone, not just the underprivileged,” Sichinga added.
Rev. Closebel Gondwe, an advisor for Mzuzu Presbytery, concluded the event with words of encouragement.
“Be determined and resilient in all your endeavors. Trust God to guide you through every challenge,” Rev. Gondwe advised.
The event, organized by Mzuzu City CYF Presbytery in collaboration with Mzuzu Presbytery, highlighted the importance of spiritual renewal and discipline as young people prepare to navigate a politically charged environment.
