Four High-Profile Arrests in Lilongwe Linked to Greenbelt Initiative
Police in Lilongwe have arrested four prominent individuals, including Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Member of Parliament Joseph Mwanamveka, former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) CEO Collins Magalasi, former Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Lloyd Muhara, and former Secretary to the Treasury Cliff Chiunda.
Lawyer Kalekeni Kaphale confirmed the arrests to Nation Online. He stated that Mwanamveka and Chiunda are currently detained at the Area 3 police station, while Muhara and Magalasi are providing statements to fiscal police at Area 6.
Kaphale suggested that the arrests are likely connected to matters involving the Greenbelt Initiative.
National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya has yet to comment on the situation.
