Dunduzu FC Clinches 2024 Kettie Nyalongwe Trophy
Dunduzu FC has claimed the 2024 Kettie Nyalongwe Trophy with a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Manchester FC in the final match held on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Khamba Ground.
The game drew a vibrant crowd from Khamba and Nkholongo, who were treated to a closely contested and electrifying encounter.
Manchester FC took the lead in the 26th minute and maintained their advantage until halftime. However, Dunduzu FC leveled the score through a penalty after a handball incident in the box. With just two minutes of regulation time left, Dunduzu FC pierced through Manchester’s defense to net the winning goal, securing the coveted title.
As champions, Dunduzu FC walked away with K350,000, while Manchester FC received K250,000 as runners-up.
In other events, Lupaso Queens triumphed in the netball category, and Madodi emerged victorious in the girls’ soccer division.
Chimwemwe Ngwira, Chairperson of the organizing committee, commended the league’s smooth execution, highlighting the absence of violence and other disruptions. Ngwira emphasized the league’s role in identifying talent for Super League and Division League teams.
Gift Mkandawire, the league’s sponsor, celebrated the competition’s 24-year legacy, which he established in honor of his late mother, Kettie Nyalongwe. Mkandawire announced plans to increase sponsorship next season to further support grassroots football and revealed that outstanding players from the league would be scouted for Lube Masters FC and Mzuzu City Hammers FC.
