In a statement issued by UTM Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala, the decision was attributed to Usi’s violation of the party’s constitution through actions that undermined its unity and integrity.

Njawala stated that Usi was found guilty of provoking division within the party.

“Usi mobilized UTM supporters to attend a government event dressed in UTM regalia and displaying party symbols, despite the official termination of the political alliance between UTM and MCP,” said Njawala.

He further noted that Usi publicly endorsed the MCP government by using its slogan, “Boma ndi Lomweli,” in direct violation of Article 22(8)(k) of the UTM Constitution, which prohibits supporting or aligning with political organizations not in alliance with UTM.

“Michael Usi is hereby advised to immediately cease identifying himself as a UTM member in any capacity,” the statement concluded.
