Mchinji Border Post Triples Monthly Revenue to K3 Billion
The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has significantly increased its revenue collection at the Mchinji One-Stop Border Post, tripling monthly figures from K1 billion to K3 billion.
This was disclosed by MRA Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Moses Masina, during a validation workshop on the time release study for the border post held in Mchinji District.
Masina highlighted that, despite various challenges, the Mchinji One-Stop Border Post has made substantial contributions to Malawi’s revenue since 2022.
Charity Musonzo, Director of Trade in Goods at the Ministry of Trade, noted that the border post is performing at an average level, or slightly better, despite occasional delays caused by unstable electricity, as it relies on supply from Zambia.
Meanwhile, Mshuka Kamwela, Programme Manager for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) European Development Fund, expressed satisfaction with the improved performance of the border post over the past three years.
