Catherine Tchongwe, from Group Village Headman Mathambo in Jalavikuwa, Mzimba, has appealed to well-wishers and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to support her children’s education.
Tchongwe, who is visually impaired, believes education is the key to overcoming her family’s challenges.
Speaking on Saturday after Ebenezer Community Development (ECOD) presented various items to her family, Tchongwe emphasized that investing in her children’s education would change their lives and secure their future.
“My children are the breadwinners because I cannot do much due to my condition. People have always supported us, but I dream of well-wishers and organizations helping my children get an education. With education, they can support themselves and uplift our family,” she said.
Tchongwe expressed hope that her children would excel in school and later assist other families in similar situations. She revealed that her husband abandoned them, leaving the family to struggle alone.
Her four children—aged 18, 16, 12, and 9 are her main concern, with the youngest currently in Standard Five.
Group Village Headman Mathambo echoed Tchongwe’s appeal, emphasizing the transformative power of education.
“We are grateful for the support so far, but Catherine needs lasting help. Her husband disappeared, and we don’t know his whereabouts. If anyone can support her children’s education, it will change this family’s future,” he said.
ECOD Project Officer Shadreck Thenda pledged continued support to the family.
“Our organization will provide fertilizer for the family. We are also in discussions with a family interested in helping two of the children, but we will ensure all processes follow
