Wanderers March into Castle Challenge Cup Final with Convincing 3-0 Win
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC has secured its place in the Castle Challenge Cup final after a commanding 3-0 victory over Panthers FC at Kamuzu Stadium. Goals from Clement Nyondo, Blessings Singini, and Gaddie Chirwa highlighted Wanderers’ dominant performance, ensuring their path to the final.
The match saw Wanderers asserting control from the outset, creating numerous scoring opportunities in the first half. However, despite their dominance, the first half ended goalless. It wasn’t until the second half that their efforts bore fruit, with Nyondo breaking the deadlock, followed by Singini and Chirwa, who sealed the emphatic win.
Head coach Bob Mpingangira praised his team’s determination and execution, expressing optimism about their chances in the final.
“We’re happy with the performance today, and we’re aiming to do even better in the final. We hope to bring something home for our fans,” he said.
On the other hand, Panthers FC coach Innocent Mkandira acknowledged his team’s struggles in the second half.
“We failed to contain Wanderers after the break, and that cost us. However, we’ve learned a lot from this tournament,” Mkandira remarked.
Despite their exit, Panthers FC can hold their heads high after an impressive run that saw them eliminate heavyweights like Silver Strikers, Civo Service United, and MAFCO FC.
Wanderers’ journey to the final has been marked by consistent performances and an unyielding team spirit, further cementing their reputation as tournament favorites. Their next challenge will be against the winner of the other semifinal between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mzuzu City Hammers.
The stage is now set for what promises to be an electrifying final as Wanderers look to crown their stellar campaign with the coveted Castle Challenge Cup trophy.
