Aspirant MP Urges Youth to Shun Violence
Aspirant Member of Parliament for Chitipa Central, Fiskani Nyondo, has urged the youth in Chitipa to reject any form of violence instigated by politicians.
Addressing a crowd at Chitipa Boma on Sunday, Nyondo emphasized that young people should not allow themselves to be manipulated by selfish politicians to perpetrate violence against opposing factions. While presenting his manifesto, he pledged to prioritize grassroots development in collaboration with various stakeholders.
“Development starts at the household level before it expands to the community. We plan to mobilize people and teach them practical skills such as soap and cooking oil production, just to mention a few,” Nyondo told the jubilant attendees.
Nyondo, who plans to contest as an independent candidate in next year’s elections, expressed disappointment at the low voter registration numbers in the constituency.
“Out of a potential 34,000 prospective voters, only 15,000 have registered. That’s just half of the expected figure for Chitipa Central. This is not good. If there’s another registration period, I urge everyone to register in large numbers,” he added.
In his remarks, aspiring Independent Councillor for Yamba Ward, Given Kitha, echoed Nyondo’s sentiments. He appealed to the youth to avoid being used to disrupt rallies or incite violence for the benefit of political actors.
“Don’t let yourselves be exploited for selfish interests. Love your district. We need to focus on activities that can uplift Chitipa, which is still underdeveloped,” Kitha said passionately.
Malawi is set to hold general elections in September next year. The calls from Nyondo and Kitha come as the nation gears up for a heated political season.
