Northern Region Football Association Commends Competitive Season
The Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) has praised the recently concluded Simso-Mzuzu 12 Premier League season, describing it as a successful and competitive campaign with a notable decline in fan violence.
NRFA General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu expressed satisfaction with the season, citing fierce competition among teams that made the league both impressive and entertaining. “This year, we have not registered so many cases pertaining to violence as far as league management has been concerned,” Nyasulu said, emphasizing the positive shift in fan behavior compared to previous seasons.
However, the season had its share of drama. Raiply United, after a strong start, failed to secure promotion to the National Division League following a crucial defeat to Songwe Border United at Kangindwa Ground. Meanwhile, Chintheche United clinched their spot with a 2-1 victory over Ekwaiwen at Chiwaza Ground. Jenda United followed suit, defeating Eagle Strikers 1-0 at Mzuzu Police Ground, and Chilumba Barracks advanced after Lube Masters forfeited their match, resulting in a walkover win.
As a result, Songwe Border United will represent the Northern Region in the National Division League alongside Chitipa United, Karonga United, Moyale Barracks, and Mzuzu City Hammers.
The NRFA remains committed to the development of football in the region, pledging to build on this season’s success. The association also plans to address issues like match forfeitures by implementing stricter disciplinary measures to ensure teams honor their fixtures in the future.
