Moyale Barracks Women Defend 2024 Goshen FAM Women’s League Title
Moyale Barracks Women Football Club have successfully defended their 2024 Northern Region Goshen FAM Women’s League title after defeating second-placed MK Academy 2-1 in a crucial match played at Botanic Ground on Saturday.
The champions delivered an impressive season, winning 15 matches, losing only once, and recording a single draw to accumulate 49 points from 18 games. MK Academy maintained their runner-up position for a second consecutive season with 43 points, suffering one loss and two draws.
Topik Academy secured third place, while Mzuzu City Queens, formerly Bico Women, emerged as the most improved side, climbing to fourth position after finishing second from the bottom last season. At the other end of the table, Gafu Sisters and Mighty Queens, who both finished with seven points, will face relegation play-offs to retain their spots in the league next season.
Moyale Barracks’ title defence guarantees their qualification for the national championship, alongside MK Academy. Meanwhile, third-placed Topik Academy must successfully navigate the play-offs to confirm their participation.
Speaking about the 2024 season, Northern Region Women’s Football Committee Chairperson Ivy Mwafulirwa expressed satisfaction with the competition and discipline displayed by the teams.
“We have seen an improvement in competition and discipline among the participating teams,” Mwafulirwa said.
As league champions, Moyale Barracks Women will receive K4 million, while MK Academy will take home K2 million for their runner-up finish.
