Blantyre Nandos Traffic Robots: A Hazardous Neglect
Blantyre City Council has been urged to allocate funds for the maintenance of essential public services, including traffic control systems in the city and its surrounding areas.
For months, the traffic lights near Nandos, located in the heart of Blantyre, have been operating with all signals functional but misaligned, leaving motorists and pedestrians unable to clearly see the indicators. This has turned the area into an accident-prone zone, as road users navigate the crossing without clear guidance due to the misaligned traffic robots.
Despite the situation, Blantyre City Council officials who pass through the area daily appear oblivious to the problem, sparking concerns over negligence. Observers question how such an issue could persist without action, suggesting a lack of accountability among city authorities.
Greyson Mikuwa, Secretary General of the Muvi wa Chilingamo Revolutionary Party (MRP), has called on the council to take immediate action. He criticized the officials for their inaction and urged them to regularly monitor and maintain public services.
“It is disheartening that the misaligned traffic lights at Nandos have remained unattended for months. This negligence speaks volumes about the council’s failure to uphold its responsibilities,” Mikuwa said.
Mikuwa noted that fixing the issue would not require a significant financial investment, as the council already has support staff capable of addressing the problem without incurring additional costs. He emphasized that it is the duty of every citizen to hold public officials accountable for such oversights.
The MRP Secretary General has warned that if the council fails to address the issue promptly, he will publicly denounce their negligence in the strongest terms.
“It is the responsibility of duty bearers to ensure the safety and efficiency of public services. Ignoring such problems puts lives at risk,” Mikuwa added.
Residents are now waiting to see whether the council will take swift action to rectify the situation and restore safety at one of the city’s busiest intersections.
