LEF Party President Calls for Chakwera’s Resignation Amid National Crisis
The President of the Liberation for Economic Freedom (LEF) Party, Dr. Davide Mbewe, has issued a sharp critique of President Lazarus Chakwera’s national address delivered on November 27, 2024.
Mbewe described the speech as hollow and unconvincing, leaving Malawians disillusioned amidst growing national challenges.
Dr. Mbewe highlighted the dire state of the country, citing a worsening hunger crisis, persistent shortages of medicine, fertilizer, and fuel, which have plunged the economy into disarray and left citizens struggling for survival.
“People are dying from hunger, and many are resorting to unsafe and unsustainable food sources,” Mbewe asserted.
The LEF leader also accused President Chakwera of fostering an authoritarian regime under the guise of democracy, eroding fundamental rights, and enforcing a de facto one-party system. He condemned regional discrimination, the use of violence to suppress peaceful protests, and the spread of misinformation by the government.
In his statement, Mbewe called for decisive action and demanded President Chakwera’s immediate resignation.
“He has failed us, and it is time for a change,” Mbewe declared emphatically.
This demand comes as the LEF Party gears up for the 2025 elections, with plans to hold a major conference next year. Dr. Mbewe, a prominent figure in Malawi’s political arena, has consistently championed his party’s vision of economic freedom, equality, and empowerment for all citizens.
