Ndirande-Matope Primary School Wins K5 Million in Road Safety Poster Competition
Ndirande-Matope Primary School has emerged victorious in the third phase of the VIA Road Safety Poster Competition, receiving K5 million for their outstanding poster.
The initiative, organized by Rays of Hope and supported by Total Energies through the VIA project, aims to enhance road safety awareness among pupils.
Speaking during the award ceremony in Blantyre on Wednesday, VIA Project Coordinator Promise Mjima emphasized the project’s commitment to ensuring learners’ safety on their way to and from school.
“We launched this project in 2023 to address the critical need for road safety among students. Visibility plays a crucial role in safety, and this prize will help Matope School implement measures such as painting school infrastructure to improve visibility,” said Mjima.
Accepting the award, Ndirande-Matope Primary School’s project patron, Grecian Elias, highlighted their approach to the competition.
“We focused on portraying safety measures rather than depicting accidents in our poster, which resonated with the judges,” Elias explained.
Sekaninge Kaliati, Corporate Affairs Manager for Total Energies Marketing Malawi Limited, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting road safety initiatives.
The ceremony was graced by notable figures, including Blantyre City Mayor Joseph Makwinja and police officials. Five other primary schools—Bangwe, Chilomoni, Mankhetha, and Chitawira—also participated in the competition and received certificates, badges, and a trophy as consolation prizes.
