Kalisto Pasuwa Appointed Interim Head Coach of Malawi’s Flames as FAM Reshuffles Technical Team
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has officially appointed Kalisto Pasuwa as the interim head coach of the national football team, the Flames, following the recent departure of former head coach Patrick Mabedi.
Pasuwa’s appointment came after a strategic virtual meeting of FAM’s Executive Committee, during which the association expressed its commitment to refocusing the team’s efforts for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.
In this new leadership structure, Pasuwa will be supported by an experienced team to ensure optimal performance. Peter Mponda, the head coach of Silver Strikers, and Pritchard Mwansa from Moyale Barracks have been appointed as his assistant coaches, bringing their tactical expertise and domestic league experience to the Flames’ management. The coaching team will also benefit from the guidance of FAM-appointed Technical Advisors Kinnah Phiri and Young Chimodzi, both of whom bring a wealth of knowledge and past successes with the Flames to help steer the team strategically.
Pasuwa’s immediate focus will be on the Flames’ two remaining Afcon qualification matches, where a strong showing could propel the team to the next stage of the tournament.
Malawi is set to face Burundi on November 15 in Ivory Coast, a critical match that will test the team’s adaptability and resilience.
Following that, the Flames will host Burkina Faso on November 19 at Bingu National Stadium, in what will be another essential fixture to secure qualification points.
With the new technical team, FAM aims to leverage Pasuwa’s coaching experience alongside the fresh perspectives of Mponda and Mwansa, setting high expectations for the Flames’ performance and unity as they aim to make their mark on the international stage.
