Kabambe expresses concerns over plane crash inquiry
Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, a Malawian politician and a UTM member, has voiced his concerns over the recently instituted inquiry into the plane crash that claimed the life of former Vice President and UTM leader, late Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, alongside eight others.
Kabambe took to his Facebook page to share his thoughts on the inquiry, expressing disappointment over how the process was initiated.
In his post, Dr. Kabambe acknowledged the establishment of the inquiry but stated that it was forced into action only after public pressure from various sectors of society. He noted that it was the expectation of Malawians that experts in aviation accidents would be part of the investigating team, and that the inclusion of international experts who have experience in similar cases would have strengthened the credibility of the inquiry.
“It is important that the inquiry does not overlook any details and that it addresses all stakeholders, including the families of the victims, aviation experts, and the communities near the crash site,” Dr. Kabambe wrote.
Call for Transparency
Kabambe stressed the need for transparency, suggesting that the inquiry should examine whether the plane involved in the accident was properly maintained and fit for flight. He emphasized that this investigation must be open and thorough to avoid any suspicion or doubt about its findings.
“It would be best if this inquiry were conducted in a transparent manner, utilizing both radio and television stations to broadcast the proceedings. This approach would honor the memory of those who tragically lost their lives and demonstrate our commitment to justice,” he stated.
The UTM leader also highlighted the importance of learning from this tragedy to prevent similar accidents in the future. He believes that the findings from this inquiry will reveal the truth and uncover any hidden details surrounding the accident, bringing much-needed closure to the families affected by the crash.
“As we move forward, let us learn together and take steps to avoid preventable accidents. We believe the outcome of this inquiry will guide us toward the truth and provide answers to the many questions that have arisen from this tragic incident,” Kabambe said.
A Hope for Justice and Respect for the Deceased
In closing, Dr. Kabambe expressed hope that the inquiry would bring peace to the families of the victims and pay due respect to the lives lost in the crash. He remains hopeful that the investigation will be carried out with the highest levels of integrity and transparency, ensuring justice for all involved.
“The findings of this inquiry must offer comfort to the bereaved and ensure that the memories of our lost loved ones are honored. We trust that the inquiry will uncover the truth and lead us to justice,” he concluded.
The plane crash, which occurred on 10 June 2024, shocked the nation and left many unanswered questions about the circumstances leading to the tragedy. As the inquiry begins, all eyes are on the commission to deliver a thorough and transparent investigation into this heartbreaking event.
