Moyale Barracks Eye Redemption in Crucial Mzuzu Derby Against Hammers
Prichard Mwansa, head coach of Moyale Barracks FC, is confident his team can secure a crucial victory against local rivals, Mzuzu City Hammers, in the upcoming Mzuzu Derby. With anticipation building ahead of the match, Mwansa emphasized that his squad is ready to rise to the challenge and reclaim city supremacy.
Acknowledging the strength of the Hammers, Mwansa praised their rivals but asserted that Moyale Barracks have prepared diligently.
“The Hammers are a solid team, no doubt, but we’ve been working hard for this. I’ve reminded my players of the importance of this game, and we’re focused on proving ourselves on the pitch,” said Mwansa.
Reflecting on past matches, Mwansa pointed to Moyale’s victory over the Hammers in 2021, expressing his belief that a repeat performance is within reach.
“We beat them back in 2021, and it’s time to do it again. They are a tough side, but we are determined to restore our pride as the kings of Mzuzu. A win on Saturday would not only give us bragging rights but also strengthen our position on the Superleague table,” he added.
The Mzuzu Derby has always been a heated contest, drawing fans from all corners of the city eager to see which team will emerge on top. For Moyale Barracks, a victory would mean solidifying their status as city champions and boosting morale as the season progresses.
Meanwhile, Mzuzu City Hammers coach, Kondwani Ikwanga, has also assured fans of his team’s readiness.
“The match against Moyale is very important for us. We’ve put in the work, addressed our previous weaknesses, and we’re set for the battle. We want our supporters to come out in full force, and we promise to give them a performance to remember,” said Ikwanga.
Currently, Moyale Barracks sit in 9th place with 32 points from 23 games, while Mzuzu City Hammers are 3rd with 39 points from 24 matches. The stakes are high, and both teams will be looking to make a statement in this highly anticipated derby.
