MEC Trains Additional EMD Operators to Support Voter Registration
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has trained 200 additional Elections Monitoring Device (EMD) operators to support those already deployed in the ongoing first phase of voter registration in several districts.
Speaking on Friday at the training session in Mponela, MEC Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja emphasized the importance of increasing the number of operators due to the high turnout at some registration centers.
“In order to efficiently serve registrants and reduce waiting times, we aim to have as many operators as possible. This supplementary cohort will strengthen the teams already in the field,” said Mtalimanja.
She also urged the new EMD operators to remain dedicated to their duties to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process.
The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has launched voter registration in all regions in phases, with the first phase ending on November 3, 2024. In the northern region, registration has begun in Chitipa, Karonga, Karonga Town, and Mzuzu.
