Empowering Women in Chikwawa: A Step Towards Inclusive Development

0

Chikwawa District Council is taking bold steps to economically empower women through inclusive social-economic development initiatives.

Victoria Nkasala, the district’s Gender Officer, emphasizes that this move aims to bridge the gender gap in the labor workforce, tackling challenges women face in accessing education, employment, and economic opportunities.

To achieve this goal, the council has identified over 200 gender champions to advocate for women’s empowerment and inclusive policies.

These champions will play a crucial role in promoting gender equality and social protection programs.

The district is currently implementing the SP-GEAR project, also known as Amai Titukuke, which supports various social protection programs. Funded by the European Union, Unicef, and the governments of Malawi and Ireland, this three-year project spans nine districts and is valued at $26.5 million (approximately K46 billion).

By addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by women, the Chikwawa District Council is paving the way for inclusive development and growth.

This initiative aligns with the district’s physical development plan, which focuses on socio-economic growth and environmental management.
