Tembo Lauds SPAESHA Initiative for Strengthening School Health in Malawi
Maguza Tembo, Deputy Director for School Health and Nutrition at the Ministry of Education, has commended the Strategic Advisors for Education and School Health in Africa (SPAESHA) initiative for its significant contributions to enhancing school health systems across Malawi.
Speaking during a recent meeting in Mponela, Tembo expressed gratitude for SPAESHA’s dedication to improving students’ health and well-being. She emphasized the need for continuous support to implement a comprehensive national School Health and Nutrition policy, integrating key health and nutritional practices into schools nationwide.
“This initiative is crucial in addressing health challenges faced by our school-going children. We need sustainable support to ensure our national School Health and Nutrition policy’s successful implementation,” said Tembo.
Tembo highlighted critical areas requiring reevaluation for a holistic approach to student health.
Dr. Chakufwa Munthali, Director of Partnerships, Operations, and Awards Management at Save the Children, reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting government efforts in improving school health and nutrition.
“We are fully committed to working with the Ministry of Education and stakeholders to address these challenges effectively.
Our focus is on creating healthier and safer learning environments for all Malawian children,” said Dr. Munthali.
SPAESHA, a program under the USAID-funded MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) initiative, collaborates with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health to develop and enhance school health initiatives in Malawi.
By focusing on nutrition, hygiene, safety, and inclusivity, SPAESHA aims to create healthier learning environments.
