Mzuzu-based police side Eagle Strikers stunned Songwe Border United 3-0, ending their unbeaten streak in the 2024 NRFA Simso Mzuzu 12 Sponsors League season.

Eagle Strikers’ Samani Nyirenda opened the scoring in the 27th minute, capitalizing on a misplaced cross from Don Kachingwe that bypassed the keeper. Minutes later, Chikondi Nyirenda doubled the lead, exploiting a misjudged long ball from the back.

In the second half, Songwe Border United’s frustrations mounted, culminating in striker Given Mwandira’s early exit after receiving a second yellow card. The visitors’ woes continued as Chikondi Nyirenda netted his second goal, taking advantage of miscommunication between defenders.

Eagle Strikers’ coach Charles Bulu Nkhoma attributed the victory to improved finishing. “We worked on all departments, especially finishing, and it paid off. We’ll continue working hard.”

Songwe Border United’s coach Kitwel Cheyo conceded defeat, citing inadequate preparation and miscommunication. “We arrived late and didn’t have a proper warm-up. We’ll address these challenges and bounce back.”
