Maggie Njera, founder of Njera Processors, which produces soy-based porridge flour, expressed her excitement over the Mzuzu Youth Business Concert held at Mzuzu Stadium from September 5 to 6, 2024.

Njera found the event highly beneficial, as it provided her with the opportunity to showcase her products and connect with potential investors and buyers.

“It was a wonderful event. I’m happy to have met so many different people, including fellow youth entrepreneurs. It’s inspiring to see what others are doing.

I was also pleased to meet officials from the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS), bank representatives, and officials from the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI), who shared valuable information on how we can expand our businesses,” Njera remarked.

She also called on the government to introduce more accessible interventions that would make it easier for youth-owned enterprises to get their products certified. “Many young people are venturing into production, but only a few are able to meet registration and certification standards due to the high costs involved in the registration process,” Njera noted.

Mr. Chiunjira, a food inspector from the Malawi Bureau of Standards, expressed his admiration for the efforts of the youth entrepreneurs.

“It’s encouraging to see so many young Malawians realizing the importance of becoming producers.

As the bureau, we’ve introduced an initiative aimed at educating youth on the significance of product certification,” he said.

Mzuzu City Council CEO, Gomezgani Nyasulu, explained that the concert was part of the council’s initiative to engage with young people and understand their needs better, in order to meet their expectations.

The event attracted a wide range of youth from across the region, many of whom were excited to meet potential investors and showcase their products. Officials from the Malawi Bureau of Standards were also present, offering guidance on the importance of certification.
