Relegated Mzuni Dent Thaboland Top 8 Qualification

Relegated Mzuni FC registered their first win of the season after beating Thaboland by two goals to nil at Luwinga Secondary School Ground on Sunday in the NRFA Simso Mzuzu 12 sponsors league game.

A sloppy first half saw both teams failing to get a goal, the visitors tried all they could to get one at some point they had five players in Mzuni’s half but we’re well container where the student’s defense, student Batson gave the home team a lead at 74 minutes after receiving a clear cut inside Thaboland’s 18-yard box from Seleman Mustapha who outrun left-back Nathan Msiska with the other goal coming just before the final whistle when a sole effort from Victor Moses.

Mzuni’s win means the team has chances of avoiding relegation while Thaboland’s loss means they will have to win all two games while hoping that their opponents drop points if they are to qualify for the last 8.

After the game, Andrew Gondwe was at a loss to explain the defeat attributing it to lack of motivation to his players.

“I don’t have exact words to say, we are demotivated and with this loss it means we are stuck, the future looks dim.” said Gondwe.

H,s opposite Jomo Ngonga was delighted with the first victory while warning the top teams to expect tough encounters.

“We started badly but we have gelled up now and we will have to win all two games against top teams.” Ngonga said.

Ekwaiweni Tafika Sports Academy is on the summit with 19 points seconded by Lube Masters with 16 points, Ekwendeni Hard Knockers are third with 15 points while Chipolopolo Boys, Thaboland and Ekwendeni United have 14,13, and 11 points respectively with Mzuni occupying bottom with 7 points both teams have two games to finish the cluster games.
