MCP convention suspended

The supreme court of Appeal in Blantyre has suspended the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) convention for an interparty hearing.
According to a court order that The Malawi Guardian Online has seen indicated that Judge Justice Dingiswayo Madise has ordered that the convention should be suspended of the high court judgment which ruled in favor of people who sued MCP for restraining people who have stayed in the party less than 5 years.
The statement further says both applicant and respondent should file their argument within 7 days and the interparty hearing will be heard 7 days after receiving both files.
“Hearing of the interparty application will take place 7 days after receiving the filed response.”
Early on Wednesday 7 August 2024, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) canceled its press briefing at its headquarters in Lilongwe without mentioning the cause of the cancellation.
The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) was supposed to hold its convention on Thursday 8 August 2024 at BICC in Lilongwe.
