MACRA introduces an interactive forum for consumers and operators
Malawi Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has introduced a consumers and operators interactivforumsum which will foster collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote digital literacy and skill development.
Speaking in an open week meeting with digital service providers and consumers, principal secretary in the Ministry of Information and Digitalization Baldwin Chiyamwaka said the open week interaction will give opportunity for the stakeholders to collectively work hand in hand to foster a vibrant and inclusive information and communication technology sector in Malawi.
Chiyamwaka said the government is committed to enhancing ICT and has got types of initiatives in hand such as the installation of free public Wi-Fi in several areas like airports, markets, and in schools.
He further said several ICT labs are constructed in community day secondary schools to promote the use of ICT services and the provision of Wi-Fi internet connection.
In her remarks, MACRA board chairperson Bridget Chibwana said they will proceed with the open week meeting to promote interaction with service providers in the digital and telecommunication sector.
She disclosed that through the open week, MACRA is committed to ensuring that its decisions and actions are open to scrutinizing and that stakeholders have a clear understanding of regulatory requirements and processes.
Chibwana said:” This open week we will highlight the key projects, innovation, and initiatives that are the future of the ICT sector in this country.”
She added that the advancements in the digital infrastructure will determine efforts to promote connectivity and initiatives that will be aimed at bridging the digital division.
The open week operators and consumers interaction meeting will proceed to Mzuzu this week.
