DPP calls for removal of Mark Botomani from Public Accounts Committee
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has initiated a formal request to the Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara, urging the removal of Mark Botomani from his position as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and as a member of the committee.
Parliament spokesperson Ian Mwenye confirmed the receipt of the DPP’s letter, indicating that discussions have commenced between the Speaker’s office and the concerned parties to address the matter promptly.
“It is the priority of the Speaker’s office to resolve this issue expeditiously. Following consultations, a decision will be made in accordance with the relevant Standing Orders,” Mwenye affirmed.
The request by the DPP underscores ongoing political tensions within Malawi’s legislative framework, with implications for the composition and leadership of key parliamentary committees. As discussions unfold, stakeholders await the Speaker’s determination on the future of Mark Botomani’s roles within the PAC, reflecting broader dynamics in the country’s political landscape.
The outcome of these deliberations will not only impact parliamentary operations but also serve as a barometer of legislative independence and governance oversight in Malawi’s democratic governance framework.
