Zambia to export Electricity power from Mozambique

President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia has expressed profound gratitude to Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi for agreeing to export electricity to Zambia, which has significantly alleviated the country’s power shortages.
President Hichilema conveyed his appreciation to President Nyusi during bilateral talks held at the State House today. The discussions highlighted the critical role Mozambique has played in easing Zambia’s electricity deficits.
Speaking at the open session, President Hichilema acknowledged the importance of regional cooperation in addressing common challenges such as energy shortages. He emphasized that the electricity imports from Mozambique have provided crucial relief to Zambia’s energy sector.
In addition to expressing gratitude for the electricity exports, President Hichilema extended his best wishes to Mozambique ahead of their upcoming General elections scheduled for October 2024. He underscored the importance of peaceful and successful elections for sustaining stability in Mozambique and the wider Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
President Nyusi, on his reciprocal State visit to Zambia, praised the strong political and diplomatic ties between the two countries. He emphasized the need to enhance economic diplomacy to further strengthen bilateral relations.
During his visit, President Nyusi’s itinerary includes addressing Zambia’s National Assembly, visiting manufacturing companies in Lusaka, and officiating as a guest at the 2024 Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola on Saturday.
The visit underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering deeper cooperation across various sectors, reflecting a shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and economic development.
